Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Pink Edition: Singapore Price And Review

Pinking out loud with Zenith.
While 2020 has so far been a bit of a downer, to say the least, it’s also been a year where we’re seeing watch brands respond to the clarion call for more women’s timepieces in the market. And we’re not just talking petite accoutrements, mind you, but serious, wrist-worthy timepieces with technical chops.
Zenith has certainly taken the charge to heart, unveiling its series of feminine-driven timepieces at the LVMH Watch Week in Dubai earlier this year. Next month, Zenith fans can expect to see yet another women’s model in boutiques around the world. Calling the Defy 21 Pink Edition its “most flamboyantly feminine watch to date”, Zenith launched this new model in partnership with Pink Ribbon Switzerland, in a bid to share some positivity with women battling breast cancer.
With the new feminine models introduced in January, Zenith leveraged on the Defy Midnight and Elite collections which, while solid in their own respects, do not boast the ultra-fast chronograph movement that the El Primero has.
A Zenith staple that has also powered recent models from the Chronomaster Revival ‘Shadow’ to the Defy 21 Land Rover Edition, the El Primero chronograph movement is best-known for its high frequency escapement that oscillates at 36,000vph. That same powerhouse drives the new Defy 21 Pink Edition, endowing the girly ticker with some serious drive. Accentuating its femininity, the El Primero 9004 automatic movement boasts a pink mainplate with a special pink star-shaped rotor (above).
On the outside, 288 white diamonds adorn a rose gold case, while the bezel is set with 44 stunning baguette-cut pink sapphires. Adding to the pageantry is a captivating skeleton dial with gold-plated hands and hour markers coated in Super-LumiNova. To match the overall aesthetic, the watch comes in a black rubber strap with pink alligator leather coating, with gold and titanium double-folding clasp.
Zenith has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Defy 21 Pink Edition to Pink Ribbon Switzerland. In addition, it will also produce a unique version of the watch for a charity auction—the 10th Anniversary Pink Ribbon Switzerland Music Gala, raising funds for The Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research.
With its bare-all countenance, bejewelled accents and bright pink touches, this is not a low-key watch by any means, especially with its 44mm girth, which means it'll be oversized for most ladies. It’s an unabashed statement on the wrist but one that also shouts its support for a worthy cause. Strong, independent women, this one’s for you.
