Watch Of The Day: Breitling Navitimer RattrapanteWritten by Joshua Yap
Your one-minute primer to the Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante.
Already one of the most iconic aviation-inspired watches on the market, the Navitimer is more covetable than ever as its latest iteration bears Breitling’s new manufacture movement. This automatic in-house calibre is notable not only for its chronometer certification by COSC, but more importantly, it elevates the marque as one of the select few to offer a proprietary split-seconds movement. The 45mm watch is available as a 250-piece limited edition in 18K red gold with a ‘Panamerican bronze’ dial (pictured), as well as a regular steel version with the same distinctive dial colour.
Though he wasn’t inducted into the world of watch journalism by choice, Joshua was hooked by mechanical horological wonders in no time. Although he personally favours modestly sized, no-nonsense timepieces, he sometimes misses the outrageous mind-bogglers of the pre-Credit Crunch years. As he dreams of owning a modern haute horlogerie watch one day, he’s currently content scouring the Internet for vintage value buys.
