New Exhibition: Vacheron Constantin ‘Classic With A Twist’

With complimentary client care service for American 1921 owners.
Vacheron Constantin Ref. 10970
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American 1921 watch, Vacheron Constantin is marking the occasion with an exhibition featuring a selection of historical pieces from the 1910s to the 1930s, at its ION Orchard boutique from 8 to 26 August. Owners of any American 1921 pieces who are currently residing in Singapore are also entitled to a complimentary functional or complete service and watch spa.
A nod to the Art Deco period which inspired the iconic American 1921, the ‘Classic with a Twist’ exhibition showcases Vacheron Constantin’s artistic prowess and audacious designs, which detracted from the run-of-the-mill round cases and upright dials of the time. Atypical shapes include the tonneau, lozenge, oval, cushioned or cambered case designs, which can be seen in the pieces on display.
Accompanying the American 1921 (more about the watch here) at the exhibition are tonneau-shaped watches like the Ref. 10347 (above) from 1913, an 18K yellow gold beauty with a white enamel dial and Grecian frieze motif, as well as the Ref. 11445 (below) from 1925. The latter features unique welded ‘spider’ lugs, along with blued steel ‘œil de perdrix’ (overlapping circular patterns) hands.
Look out, too, for the Ref. 10754 ‘La Vogue’ cushion-shaped watch from 1926—a stunning 18K yellow gold timepiece with domed flanks. Reminiscent of a four-leaf clover, the La Vogue also boasts a finely-grained silver-toned dial with minute track and enamelled Arabic numerals.

But the fun doesn’t just end with wristwatches. Be sure to check out the skeletonised 18K white gold pocket watch (below) from 1926. Produced two years after Vacheron Constantin made its first pocket watch, the Ref. 11131 looks surprisingly contemporary (to us, anyway) with its black enamel and crystal case; a refreshing break from the enamelled dials of more traditional pocket watches.
Visit the Classic with a Twist exhibition from now till 26 August 2021 at Vacheron Constantin’s ION Orchard boutique. Owners of American 1921 timepieces who wish to enjoy the complimentary watch service may deposit their timepieces at Vacheron Constantin’s boutiques in ION Orchard or Marina Bay Sands.
