Only Watch 2019: TudorWritten by Alvin Wong
Tudor’s first-ever Black Bay in ceramic takes the stage.
The Black Bay Ceramic One for Only Watch 2019 ticks two huge boxes for collectability. Its piece-unique proposition–a must for all Only Watch offerings–is one: it is the first one-of-a-kind Black Bay to be housed in a ceramic case. Not only that, the entire watch is sheathed in black – the matte ceramic case, dial, hands, luminescent markers and strap are decked out in the enigmatic shade to send the cool factor into overdrive.
At the last Only Watch auction in 2017, Tudor set a world record price for its wristwatch with the unique Black Bay Bronze One with left-placed crown fetching 350,000 Swiss francs. Will this year’s offering, the Black Bay Ceramic One go one better?
Let’s just say that we won’t be surprised if it does. With the still-rising stock of the regular Black Bay collection as backdrop and the record-setting Black Bay Bronze One from Only Watch 2017 making collectors pay close attention, the Black Bay Ceramic One is primed to fly off the blocks.
Alvin promises not to be a douche when talking about watches. He may have scoured the Basel and Geneva watch fairs for the past 15 years, and played an instrumental role to the growth of Singapore's pioneering horological and men's lifestyle publications, but the intrepid scribe seeks to learn something new with each story he writes.
