INTRODUCING: Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Blue (Ref. 79210CNU)

The Visa Cash App RB Formula One team-exclusive watch is now available to all.

When Tudor announced its return to motorsport earlier this year as an official partner of the new Visa Cash App RB Formula One team, the sister team of Red Bull Racing, brand loyalists were understandably anticipating the release of a commemorative timepiece of this collaboration, but all we had gotten were images of 2021’s all-black Black Bay Ceramic accompanying the press release. Interest in the team watch was reignited during the unveiling of the livery of its 2024 cars when a brand-new version of the Black Bay appeared on the wrists of its drivers – Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda – who subsequently wore it around the paddock. With no news of the watch’s launch in the following months, it was assumed that the timepiece was probably a team-exclusive. Until now, that is.

Visa Cash App RB Formula One drivers – Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda – have been seen wearing the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’ around the paddocks since the announcement of the partnership.

Emblazoned in the Visa Cash App RB livery, complete with a domed dial in striking blue and matching stitching on a hybrid black leather and rubber strap, the Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’ is the same watch Ricciardo and Tsunoda have been wearing this F1 season. Otherwise, the timepiece very much inherits its high-tech aesthetics from the aforementioned Black Bay Ceramic model. Its 41mm case is crafted from a single block of black ceramic, featuring sand-blasted surfaces and bevelled edges, which are mirror-polished for a striking contrast to accentuate the pronounced lines. The unidirectional rotatable bezel in black-PVD-treated 316L steel has a black ceramic insert with a sunray satin finish that juxtaposes against the matte-finished engraved graduations for a contemporary look.

Just like the first Ceramic model, the ‘Blue’ version is a Master Chronometer certified by METAS (Federal Institute of Metrology). This extensive certification covers key functional aspects of the watch, such as precision, resistance to magnetic fields, waterproofness, and power reserve. In addition to the watch being Swiss-made and its movement being COSC-certified, the exceptionally high standards include a daily variation range of 0/+5 seconds and timekeeping accuracy even when exposed to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. This makes the watch especially suited for the rigours of the F1 racetracks, not to mention a wide range of professional settings.

The Manufacture Calibre MT5602-1U continues to power the new Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’, visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. Bearing the signatures of Tudor’s in-house movements, it features a sun laser design and alternating sand-blasted and polished surfaces on its bridges and mainplate. To ensure its robustness and precision, the self-winding calibre employs a variable inertia balance wheel supported by a sturdy traversing bridge with two-point anchoring. An open-worked rotor, crafted from a tungsten monobloc, winds the watch with a power reserve of up to 70 hours, so one can set the watch aside on Friday evening and wear it again on Monday morning without needing to reset it.

Tudor Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’ comes with an additional black fabric strap with a blue band.

Technical prowess aside, we also appreciate the absence of a date window, which contributes to the symmetrical beauty of the watch. All the hallmarks of the Black Bay line are here, including the distinctive ‘Snowflake’ hand, highlighted by the striking blue dial. Although created for the Visa Cash App RB Formula One team, the Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’ doesn’t bear any mention of the team, not even its logo. This makes it perfect for those who have no knowledge of its affiliation but are just drawn to its eye-catching colourway. Priced at S$7,370, the Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’ also comes with a complimentary black fabric strap with a blue band.
