The TAG Heuer Carrera Green Special Edition Is Certainly On-Trend
Another green watch to choose from!
Once attempted only by a few courageous brands as green is an ostensibly a tough hue to tackle, the number of watches with green dials have rocketed this year. We are not quite sure why (perhaps a pent-up longing for nature and open spaces after what we’re going through), but the entire spectrum of green tones ranging from emerald to olive to pistachio has been lavished on many new creations this year. And surprisingly, many of these watches look pretty darn gorgeous, making us wonder why brands were so tentative to deal with the shade in the first place.
Surely, TAG Heuer has gotten the memo, too. At Watches And Wonders 2021, one of its best-looking new watches from the Aquaracer Professional 300 collection is a retro-style model in sand-blasted titanium with deep seaweed green dial. And now, with the new Carrera Green Special Edition, the brand is making sure that is right in the thick of the action.
A vintage style chronograph, the watch takes after the historical Carrera Ref. 2447 from 1963. The tapered lugs, elegant pushers, tri-compax dial layout, and domed sapphire crystal case amalgamate harmoniously for that unmistakable retro Carrera look – an aesthetic that was last seen on the previous year’s Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition.
Instead of the earlier variant’s silver-tone elegance, of course, we now have the watch with a vibrant teal dial with sunray finish. As much as green has become a trendy colour, the deep foliage hue lends both presence and a retro-inspired sensibility to the watch, and it’s easy to imagine it on the wrist of a suited gent on the set of a show like The Queen’s Gambit, without looking at all out of place.
As it is with all TAG Heuer Carrera chronographs, the Carrera Green Special Edition in 39mm steel houses the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 automatic movement with 80-hour power reserve – with a touch of limited edition swag here with the movement name and column wheel also sheathed in teal, as well as the words ‘Special Edition’ inscribed on the caseback. Limited to 500 pieces and available only at TAG Heuer boutiques and through the brand’s e-commerce website.
