INTRODUCING: TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing

A new special edition in lava orange marks the sixth collaboration between the two brands.

In 1954, Porsche’s 550 took home the trophy for the Carrera Panamericana race, one of the most difficult and dangerous automobile races in the world. The race was an inspiration for Jack Heuer, who named the chronograph that he’d created in 1963 after it. The Carrera was a timepiece that, like the Porsche 550, was shaped by the contemporary design trends of the era.

The ‘Carrera’ name is also part of Porsche’s product range, with 12 different models, including the 911 and Carrera GT, carrying that branding. It’s a shared identity that spans both brands’ modern history, although they were not official partners until 2021.

TAG Heuer x Porsche

In just two years, TAG Heuer and Porsche have released several collaborative timepieces, including a Connected Watch and special edition chronographs. On the 50th anniversary of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7, two limited edition chronographs were presented by TAG Heuer to commemorate this notable Carrera milestone.

The latest is the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing, which carries the design features of TAG Heuer’s Porsche collaborations with fiery, lava orange accents on the dial, bezel, and strap.

The brushed dial of the watch is designed like a dashboard gauge, which recalls both Porsche’s automobile heritage and TAG Heuer’s history as a dashboard timing instrument. Large applied Arabic minute indexes, instead of hours, are encircled by an orange ring. A minute track is printed on the outermost circumference of the display. Two larger chronograph counters at 3 and 9 o’clock count the elapsed minutes and hours, respectively. A smaller seconds sub-dial with a date window is presented at 6 o’clock. The counters all bear orange accents and outlines. The chronograph seconds hand is also in orange.

On the ceramic bezel, Porsche’s name is indicated in the same orange, along with a tachymeter scale with white lettering. The 44mm watch case is made of black DLC-coated stainless steel, as are the crown and pump-style chronograph pushers. The caseback is bevelled and engraved with ‘TAG Heuer Special Edition’ and ‘Carrera’, while the oscillating weight of the movement has both TAG Heuer and Porsche’s branding on it and is styled like a Porsche steering wheel. Water-resistant to 100m, the watch comes with a matching textured calfskin leather strap with orange stitching and a presentation box with orange details as well.

The Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing is powered by TAG Heuer’s Calibre Heuer 02, which offers a column-wheel, vertically coupled chronograph operation with 80 hours of reserve power. It’s highly reliable and, like all TAG Heuer timepieces, comes with a warranty of up to five years. The watch will be available immediately on TAG Heuer’s website as well as its boutiques and select retail partners.
