Pre-SIHH 2016: Richard Mille

We are not exactly sure if Richard Mille is trying to play it fair, but its introduction of a new men’s and women’s creation apiece is certain to please all quarters.

For the men, Richard Mille offers an ultra-flat take on its motor racing-inspired tickers with the RM67-01 (above, left image).

Unlike most other brands that typically play it safe with super slim timepieces, offering equating ‘svelte’ with ‘safe’, this creation, measuring 7.75mm in height, is sleek enough to slide under the cuff of your business shirt, while showy enough (it’s a Richard Mille, after all) to demand second takes from acquaintances. Housed in a titanium case, the skeletonised automatic movement comes with 50-hour power reserve and a three-step function selector – ‘W’ (winding), ‘D’ (date) and ‘H’ (hand-setting) – inspired by a car’s gearbox.

To entice the ladies, Richard Mille takes the glamour route with the RM07-02 Pink Lady Sapphire Automatic (above, right image). Picking up from where it left off with previous sapphire cased creations like the RM56-01 and RM56-02 for men, this offering features the same rigorously crafted case but using pink sapphire. For those who are unaware, the sapphire case needs to be milled from a single block using special machines in a process that takes up to 40 days. The demands are well worth it though, and especially enhanced in this creation, embellished with diamond-set gold bridges and dial flange.
