New Patek Philippe Watch To Commemorate Manufacture Opening

Welcome party, Patek Philippe style.
Just when we thought that Patek Philippe wasn’t going to announce any new releases for 2020, out comes this stunning stainless steel Calatrava with grey-blue dial that, surely, will have Patek Philippe enthusiasts clamoring for one.
The occasion for the unexpected drop? To commemorate the opening of Patek Philippe’s newest production building at Plan-les-Ouates in Geneva, a sprawling 10-storey complex that will house the brand’s operations under one roof, from the research and production of timepieces, to the hosting of VIP guests in purpose-built lounges.
But back to the watch. Limited to 1,000 pieces, the new Calatrava Ref. 6007A-001 belongs to a proud family of Patek Philippe watches that have been specially made to mark the company’s milestones, like the Ref. 5500 Pagoda and the Ref. 5029 Minute Repeater, which commemorated the inauguration of the manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates in from 1997.
Youthful, dynamic and understated all at once, the Calatrava Ref. 6007A-001 shines as a smart-casual dress watch brimming with delightful details. The watch’s polished 40mm steel case and cambered bezel frames a dial that is judiciously arranged and proportioned to allow for decorative accents to shine.
The seconds outer flange, railway hour markers, baton-style fonts and hour numerals, date window at a conventional three o’clock position, and carbon weave-inspired pattern at the middle combine for a pleasingly open and legible display, nuanced at just the right spots and at the right levels. Elsewhere, the calfskin strap with embossed fabric texture that resembles denim rolls back the years even more for the Calatrava, commonly associated with mature and stately style.
The watch’s open caseback parades the automatic Calibre 324 S C with 45 hours of power reserve, the sapphire crystal etched with the Calatrava cross and the words ‘New Manufacture 2019’ to confer its exclusive stature. From a brand that earlier claimed to be holding off on new watches this year, Patek Philippe springs an awesome surprise indeed.
