Panerai – Luminor Marina 1950 America’s Cup 3 Day Automatic AccacioWritten by Joshua Yap
Your one-minute primer to the Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 America’s Cup 3 Day Automatic Accacio.
We’ll admit that we aren’t used to seeing a Panerai watch as colourful as this, but that may be a boon to those looking for an eye-catching timepiece. As the official watch of the 35th America’s Cup, it proudly bears the colours of the yacht race in the forms of contrasting stitching on its leather strap and accents on its otherwise spartan dial. The race logo, on the other hand, can be found embossed on said strap and in relief on the screw down caseback. With a sturdy 44mm stainless steel case, it is endowed with an automatic manufacture movement. Limited to 300 pieces.
Though he wasn’t inducted into the world of watch journalism by choice, Joshua was hooked by mechanical horological wonders in no time. Although he personally favours modestly sized, no-nonsense timepieces, he sometimes misses the outrageous mind-bogglers of the pre-Credit Crunch years. As he dreams of owning a modern haute horlogerie watch one day, he’s currently content scouring the Internet for vintage value buys.
