Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra ‘Ultralight’

Omega proves that less is more.

Fifty-five grams. Even an airy croissant is almost heavier than this new Omega watch. Designed with athletes in mind – you know, the sort who want to flaunt their horological sass during competition without breaking a sweat - the Seamaster Aqua Terra ‘Ultralight’ certainly lives up to its billing by barely registering on the weighing scale.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra ‘Ultralight’s’ 55g weight (with fabric strap; it weighs slightly more with a rubber strap) is achieved with the help of an alloy called Gamma Titanium. Ostensibly a souped-up version of titanium that is lighter and more robust than regular titanium, Gamma Titanium is used to construct the case, caseback and crown. To further lighten the load, Omega watchmakers also reduced the amount of material on the dial, which is fashioned in grade 5 titanium.

Though the watch’s ultralight feature takes centerstage, Omega has also taken pains to ensure comfort and wear-ability in other areas such as ergonomic case design, which features a telescopic crown than can be pushed in and flushed with the case when not in use, and movement longevity with the Master Chronometer-certified Calibre 8928 TI.

Likewise, the watch’s barely-there weight hardly diminishes its presence on the wrist. The slate-grey case and dial, while unobtrusive, exudes gravitas and a sporty vibe, accentuated by subtle shots of red, blue or green. As mentioned, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra ‘Ultralight’ registers at 55g when paired with a fabric strap. But one should certainly consider rocking the watch with the rubber strap, which it originally comes with, for greater presence.
