You are looking at the Rolex watch to fetch the highest price ever at an auction. The ‘Bao Dai’ Rolex Ref. 6026 went under the hammer yesterday for US$5,060,427 at the Philips Geneva Watch Auction in association with Bacs & Russo.

The watch once belonged to His Majesty Bao Dai, the 13th and last emperor of Vietnam. Clad in 18K yellow gold, the model features a triple calendar complication with a black dial. Only three such Rolexes with black dials are known to exist, and this model is the only one to feature diamond hour markers.

Back in 2002, the Bao Dai Rolex set the same world record for the most expensive Rolex auctioned, when it when under the hammer for US$235,000.
