Watch Of The Day: Longines Lindberg Hour Angle 90th AnniversaryWritten by Joshua Yap
Your one-minute primer to the new Longines Lindberg Hour Angle.
Arguably the first true pilot’s watch, the original Lindbergh Hour Angle was designed in close collaboration with its namesake, who flew the first non-stop solo transatlantic flight in 1927. To celebrate the 90th anniversary of this feat, Longines released a limited edition (90 pieces) of the watch updated with several modern touches. Still maintaining its ability to accurately determine the longitude on long-distance flights, the automatic watch dons a resolutely urban, monochromatic look, along with a 47.5mm titanium case paired with a rotating bezel in black PVD steel.
Though he wasn’t inducted into the world of watch journalism by choice, Joshua was hooked by mechanical horological wonders in no time. Although he personally favours modestly sized, no-nonsense timepieces, he sometimes misses the outrageous mind-bogglers of the pre-Credit Crunch years. As he dreams of owning a modern haute horlogerie watch one day, he’s currently content scouring the Internet for vintage value buys.
