We have seen the street so many times in movies that we can imagine how it feels to be actually walking on it: New York’s Fifth Avenue on a frosty night around Christmastime, wrapped in a mink coat and warmed by the lights from stores bearing the world’s most glitzy names like Chanel, Ferragamo, Bergdorf Goodman and, of course, the incomparable Harry Winston.

The world-famous shopping street is especially dear to Harry Winston, which set up its flagship salon there in the 1960s, and has since become the company’s must-visit retail destination for any high society lady worth her baubles. In fact, the emblematic street is of such great significance to Harry Winston, the brand even immortalised it in its aptly named Avenue collection.

Oozing Art Deco-inspired designs, the Avenue watch is a slim, elongated and elegant wrist statement designed to evoke the sort of forthright sophistication synonymous to New York’s Fifth Avenue. The watch’s case itself sports design elements that specifically pay homage to Harry Winston’s flagship store there, most distinctively the arch-shaped middle lug that recalls the boutique’s grand entrance.

There are four new additions to the Avenue Classic Moon Phase collection this year – two each in rose and white gold paired with matching bracelet or alligator strap – all of which are scintillating, glittery red carpet-ready accompaniments. At the top of the pile are the full bracelet models. Whether in rose or white gold, these variants emanate heavyweight opulence, set with brilliant-cut diamonds on the case, bezel, lugs and bracelet links, accompanied by more stones on the dial that both form a starburst motif and outline the moonphase window.

As much as the diamonds will enchant you, it must be said, though, the watches are not just about the glitter. Away from the two incredibly high-wattage models, the Avenue Classic Moon Phase also comes in more restrained variants with alligator straps (well, as restrained as bejewelled Harry Winston timepieces can get) that, while captivating us with the quality and shine of their diamond-festooned cases, gives ample spotlight to the gorgeous dials.

Crafted in blue, white or brown mother-of-pearl, the dials radiate a lovely textured iridescence that is accentuated by their marquetry construction. Likewise, the aforementioned diamond-studded starburst pattern and romanticism of the moonphase display really shine on these models with alligator straps, benefitting from the lack of distraction with an overload of blinding gemstones.
