Come on now, let’s not be cynical shall we? A health challenge as great as HIV/AIDS demands an equally massive response, and if one of the most renowned jeweller’s of our time decides to throw its weight behind efforts to eradicate the disease, well, why not?
Harry Winston started supporting amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research) in 2015. This year, the brand continues its partnership as presenting sponsor for a New York fundraising gala attended by socialites and Hollywood celebrities.
The goal? To raise funds from a live auction that included items spanning Andy Warhol prints to Harry Winston’s diamond earrings (below). Over US$2 million were raised from the auction.
Harry Winston also unveiled its Countdown To A Cure Midnight timepieces, limited to 20 pieces each in men’s (left) and ladies’ versions. The classic and elegant men’s automatic model (US$21,200) comes in a 42mm white gold case with navy sunburst case, while the ladies’ version (US$16,200) comes in a 32mm white gold case set with brilliant-cut diamonds and coloured gemstones. Twenty per cent of the sales proceeds will go to amfAR’s research programme aimed at finding a cure for HIV/AIDS by 2020.
