Corum’s iconic maritime watch gets all dressed up for Cortina Watch’s golden jubilee.

Cortina Watch is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a collection of commemorative timepieces with esteemed partners. Hot on the heels of presenting limited editions by Patek Philippe, Chopard, and Blancpain that mark the milestone, the homegrown watch retail stalwart is unveiling its latest collaboration with Corum – the Admiral 45 Tourbillon Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Special Edition.

An audacious blend of opulence, innovation, and nautical chic, the Admiral 45 Tourbillon Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Special Edition captivates with its dark carbon case speckled with 18K gold, evoking an enchanting night cruise under a starlit sky. Thanks to a unique tool that was developed specifically to ensure that the gold inclusions are evenly distributed throughout the 45mm carbon composite case, this revolutionary fusion of materials is exclusive to Corum, and no two timepieces are exactly the same due to the manufacturing process.

Ardent followers of Corum will undoubtedly recall the spectacular case material’s debut in last year’s Admiral 45 Automatic Openworked Flying Tourbillon Carbon & Gold. However, the Admiral 45 Tourbillon Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Special Edition surprises with a closed dial design, which is unusual for the Swiss marque’s tourbillion watches that often show off their inner workings. Here, the sunray-finished anthracite dial provides an elegant backdrop for the tourbillon at 6 o’clock and the subtly shimmering dodecagonal case to shine.

Explaining the Admiral 45 Tourbillon Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Special Edition’s distinctive look, Soon Boon Chong, Vice President of Corum, shares: “The design of the Admiral 45 Tourbillon came about from Corum’s strive towards being true to its company motto, which is being an avant-gardist brand, while remaining true to its roots. There’s an interesting contrast between the rather timeless dial and the very modern case design, and overall, the watch and its elements are significative of what Corum and Cortina Watch are – leaders who have both established themselves as being at the pinnacles of the watch industry.”

Local watch lovers may reminisce first seeing Corum’s creations at Cortina Watch’s Lucky Plaza boutique in the 1980s, and Jeremy Lim, CEO of Cortina Watch, is understandably proud of this longstanding partnership. “In 1992, Cortina Watch and Corum first got together to launch a special edition timepiece to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be able to collaborate again for our golden jubilee. This extraordinary creation is a wonderful testament to our treasured relationship, which has withstood the test of time,” he says.

Limited to 10 pieces globally, the Admiral 45 Tourbillon Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Special Edition is equipped with an automatic CO 891 movement with 52-hour power reserve that can be admired via a sapphire crystal caseback stamped with “Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Since 1972”.
