INTRODUCING: Blancpain Villeret Quantième Perpétuel With Green Dial (Ref. 6656-3653-55B)

The Le Brassus Manufacture dresses its classic, user-friendly perpetual calendar in a luscious green.

Well into the first quarter of the year, green is fast emerging as the colour du jour in horology with various companies, from accessible brands to high-end watchmakers, eagerly offering attractive novelties touting the verdant shade. Whether brandishing hope and optimism or simply jumping on the bandwagon, there’s no better time for watch lovers to go green than now. We’ve already covered the limited-edition Blancpain Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar 2024 with a gorgeous forest green Grand Feu enamel dial barely two months ago, and the Manufacture is already giving us another option that is a little more attainable but no less alluring.

The new Blancpain Villeret Quantième Perpétuel’s luscious green dial evokes the lush fir forests of the Vallée de Joux, where the watchmaker’s Grandes Complications workshop resides.

To anyone privileged enough to have visited Blancpain’s ‘Farm’ in the village of Le Brassus, the inspiration for the new Villeret Quantième Perpétuel, or Villeret Perpetual Calendar, may be apparent. The intense green dial with a sunburst finish recalls the fir forests of the Vallée de Joux, in which the brand’s Grandes Complications workshop nestles. The brown alligator leather strap, on the other hand, purportedly honours the rich resources of the region that have enabled decades of watchmaking excellence to this day.

The Blancpain Villeret Quantième Perpétuel (Ref. 6656-3653-55B) has a 40.3mm case in 18K red gold and a brown alligator leather strap.

Although the Villeret Quantième Perpétuel is not a new watch per se, it remains a remarkable creation in Blancpain’s stable. A reinterpretation of the Ref. 6057, the modern version (Ref. 6656) we have today was introduced in 2018 with a contemporary 40.3mm case size that retains the original’s double-stepped bezel, adding visual depth to the 10.8mm-thin watch. It was previously available in steel, platinum, and 18K red gold, which is also what we get for the latest model. The warm glow of the precious metal also appears on the open-worked leaf-shaped hands and applied Roman numeral indexes, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the dial’s lush tone.

The Calibre 5954 self-winding movement, shown here without the winding rotor, boasts meticulous finishing and decorations.

Also unchanged is the elegant dial layout, which displays the months and leap year indication at 12 o’clock, days of the week at 9, date at 3, and moonphase at 6 o’clock with the emblematic face of the Manufacture. All of the functions are driven by the 5954 self-winding movement with a 72-hour power reserve. Mechanically programmed to automatically adjust the date display to take account of variations in months and years, including leap years, it requires no adjustment until February 2100. The calibre’s technical brilliance is matched by its exquisite beauty, with meticulous perlage and Côtes de Genève decorations on the bridges and mainplate, and a honeycomb pattern adorning the red gold oscillating weight, fully visible via the sapphire crystal caseback.

Under-lug correctors allow the calendar indications to be easily adjusted by pressing with a finger.

Despite the watch’s complexity, it is incredibly easy to operate, thanks to a patented under-lug corrector system. Introduced in 2004 by Blancpain, it enables calendar indications to be adjusted purely by hand, eliminating the need for correction tools that remain the norm even among modern perpetual calendars. In addition, it is equipped with a secure movement technology that protects the calendar mechanism from damage, giving total freedom to wearers to adjust any indication they wish, whenever they want.

A masterful blend of watchmaking ingenuity and distinctive good looks, the Villeret Quantième Perpétuel with green dial is available at Blancpain boutiques and authorised dealers and retails at S$72,800.
