Pre-SIHH 2016: Baume & Mercier

Baume & Mercier’s breakout collection from 2013, the Clifton, starts the ball rolling for the brand this new horological year.

Loved for its vintage aesthetic that takes after an archived model from the 1950s, the Clifton quickly established itself as a mainstay for the brand soon after its debut. In three years, the collection has grown to comprise basic automatic models to high-complication tourbillon creations.

For its pre-SIHH highlight, Baume & Mercier debuts the Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar. This watch occupies the technical end of the collection’s spectrum, featuring the two complications, as its name suggests. Here, a complete calendar module sits atop the Valjoux 7751 chronograph movement, regarded as one of industry’s most robust modern chronograph movements. Clad in steel, this is a versatile, smart-casual option that can take you from the boardroom to the bar.

A handsome tool watch for boardroom executives, the Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar marries the sporty heft of a chronograph with the collection’s signature vintage-style refinement. The calendar feature is a practical touch, neatly displayed without the awkward clutter that tends to plague calendar watches. Housed in a 43mm stainless steel case, the watch comes with a sapphire crystal case back.
