BaselWorld 2017: Harry Winston Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom

Harry Winston Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom

Oh, Harry Winston! How to resist the loveliest bouquet from the King of Diamonds?

Harry Winston Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom

“Springtime starts, then it stops, in the name of something new,” sang the late Leonard Cohen in one of his many evocative, wisdom-filled tunes. And no event symbolises the life-affirming season’s fleeting nature more poignantly than the sakura cherry blossom season in Japan, arguably one of the most spectacular but brief phenomenons on earth, which usually lasts for a mere two weeks.

Thank goodness then, for the folks at Harry Winston, who have captured such a moment for posterity with the Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom. The Avenue collection, distinguished by its rectangular case with three prominent lugs, may be inspired by the architecture of Harry Winston’s first New York flagship boutique, but this creation is steeped in the wonders of nature.

Of course, there are diamonds on the Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom. Plenty in fact; the largest of the lot being the 29 brilliant-cut stones festooned in the white gold case that endow the dressy timepiece with unequivocal glamour. But the spotlight belongs to the artful, iridescent dial, crafted from mother-of-pearl, shimmery in pale turquoise that evokes a cool, spring morning.

The cherry blossoms here are rendered in full bloom; a glittery depiction of Mother Nature’s own fireworks with 39 brilliant-cut white diamonds and 29 pink sapphires that symbolise the flowers, with branches of gold. Springtime may come and go, but the Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom will always promise a spot of sunshine for those lucky enough to be in possession one.
