Go green with Rolex's all-time cult favourite, the 'Hulk'.

If you’re looking at investing in your first Rolex timepiece (great decision, by the way), one of the models we’d ask you to consider is a Submariner. Read more about the collection here, along with some tips on how to buy your first Rolex.

But if you’re inclined to stand out from the crowd with a statement timepiece, the Submariner Ref. 116610LV is a longstanding cult favourite and guaranteed to get you some eyeballs.

This superhero of a timepiece is affectionately known as ‘Hulk’ and it’s not hard to see why. This emerald green model was launched in 2010 and has achieved a steady following since. Not only is it distinct from the usual black bezel-and-dial combo you see on most Submariners, it also appears to have gained a bigger fan base than the Ref. 16610V ‘Kermit’ 50th Anniversary edition with green bezel and black dial.

Depending on how the watch catches the light, the stunning green hue exhibits different tones, with one Rolex fan even going as far as saying it’s like “wearing an emerald on the wrist”.

Like the rest of the collection, the ‘Hulk’ comes in a sizeable 40mm case, meaning it’s not for the fainthearted. Cerachrom gloss on the bezel, a sunburst finished dial and Rolex’s proprietary Chromalight hands and markers that emit a blue glow in the dark, come together to offer a serious dose of attitude—carried on in the engine of this ticker.

The self-winding Calibre 3135 movement is the reliable workhorse that drives this timekeeper, and the rest of the collection that features date windows. A Superlative Chronometer with a +2/-2 second daily deviation, this is twice as precise as other certified chronometers. And if you’re a dive enthusiast, the ‘Hulk’ also features a unidirectional bezel, Glidelock bracelet extension system, Oysterlock clasp and 300m water resistance—all classic Submariner features.

Granted, it’s not the cheapest Rolex in the market but for RM37,500, you’re getting a whole lot of personality, style and the knowledge that, while you have a timepiece from one of Rolex’s most iconic collections, it’s going to set you apart as a discerning collector. And that’s as good a reason as any to get this on board with this superhero.
