Rolex Datejust 41: Malaysia Price And Review

Sleek and sexy, just the way we like it.

Rolex Datejust 41
Elegant and stylish, the Datejust has always been one of Rolex’s bestselling and most recognisable collections. This year, Rolex unveiled a new 41mm Datejust that’s slightly more refined and tweaked with a very important detail that many were craving from last year’s release—stainless steel.

To understand why this is important, we have to look at the Datejust’s recent history. Last year, Rolex unveiled a new Datejust 41mm that harks back to the 2009 Datejust II, Rolex’s first 41mm take on the iconic model (it has traditionally always been in a 36mm iteration).

The 2016 version was created to be a more elegant and proportionate take on the Datejust, something that many felt the 2009 Datejust II failed to capture. Upon its release, many lauded its design but despite the popularity of that version, the watch only came in Rolesor, which left many asking for a stainless steel offering.

Adhering to this request is this year’s Rolex Datejust 41 in steel along with all the refinements of last year’s model. It features less beefy lugs, a slimmer silhouette and surprisingly, a new movement. Aside from the full steel offering, the watch also comes in a signature 18k white gold fluted bezel option.

The markers and hands are filled with Rolex’s special Chromalight luminescent material (claimed by Rolex to last longer than regular Super-LumiNova), which gives off a bluish hue that perfectly complements the watch’s brilliant blue sunray dial.

All of this is encased in a 904L stainless steel case with the crown utilising Rolex’s Twinlock system to ensure 100m water resistance. The iconic Rolex Cyclops lens hovers over the date window at three o’clock to offer easier reading.

Inside the watch, an impressive in-house chronometer-certified Calibre 3235 powers the timepiece, offering a guaranteed -2/+2 seconds per day accuracy with a power reserve of 70 hours. The watch’s bracelet is a stainless steel Oyster which features three-piece solid links with 904L steel polished centre links and satin-finished outer links with polished edges.

Rolex Datejust 41
All in all, it’s hard to deny that the Datejust is a versatile timepiece. While Rollie fans might harp over a Sea Dweller or Daytona, the Datejust has always been the bread and butter of Rolex. Throughout history it has found itself on the wrists of icons, Hollywood superstars and enthusiasts who just want a classic everyday timepiece.

With hundreds of iterations throughout the decades, we still find ourselves extremely impressed with Rolex’s ability to take a classic and retune it for the modern times. Don’t believe us? Give this Datejust 41 a try and let us know what you think.
