When it comes to watches, no other brand is more recognisable than Rolex. Whether you’re a serious watch collector or just looking for a solid timepiece synonymous with dependability, luxury and reliability, a Rollie is pretty much the way to go. And amongst its various models, the Datejust remains one of its most beloved creations.

Released in 1945 to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary, the watch was the first automatic wristwatch with an automatically changing date window, a function we take for granted today but was a game-changing feature in the 1940s. Its sleek profile, understated aesthetics and simple design not only made it popular with the guys but the ladies as well.

Over the years, the brand has released the Datejust in female-friendly sizes ranging from 26mm to 31mm. Despite the smaller profile, the dial remains large enough for anyone to read thus retaining its popularity for ladies looking for a proper luxury piece with legitimate readability.

This year, the Datejust 31 comes in three versions, all luxed out for maximum Crazy Rich Asian vibes but with full on elegance and class. The case sides have been redesigned, and each version is now fitted with stunning diamonds, adding a sense of extravagance and femininity.

The most versatile release out of the trio is definitely the version with 18K white gold case (top) that’s fitted with a white mother-of-pearl dial and 46 brilliant-cut diamonds set on its bezel as well as diamond set indicators. Set by the hands of Rolex’s master gemmologists and gem-setters, each diamond is carefully examined and selected to meet Rolex’s extremely stringent criteria. Each stone is set individuality to achieve a perfect harmony of tone and symmetry with no more than a quarter of a human hair diameter deviation.

But the Datejust 31 is not just a fancy blinged-out timepiece; it is a functional masterpiece made for the everyday with a waterproof guarantee to a depth of 100m, thanks to Rolex’s iconic Oyster case that sees the caseback hermetically screwed down while the crown is fitted with a Twinlock double waterproof system.

Fitted in the Datejust for the first time is the Calibre 2236 automatic movement that features a Rolex-patented Syloxi hairspring in silicon making it highly insensitive to magnetic fields or temperature fluctuations. Up to 55 hours of power is reserved for the Datejust 31, thanks to the Calibre 2236’s perpetual rotor that ensures robust time keeping and maximum functionality for a lady on the go. And just like all other Rolexes, this timepiece foregoes the standard COSC certification in lieu of its own Superlative Chronometer test that puts the Datejust 31 within the realm of only +/-2 seconds daily deviation when cased, as opposed to COSC’s -4/+6 seconds when uncased.

Complementing the watch is the famous President bracelet that comes with a concealed attachment system. With ceramic inserts inside the links and a concealed folding Crown clasp, the watch is both comfortable and amazing to look at on the wrist. Other variations to the Datejust 31 include a more regal-looking 18K yellow gold version with malachite dial and an 18K Everose gold version (above) with a diamond-paved dial inlaid with pink mother-of-pearl butterflies.

If you’re a lady looking for a fine timepiece with a little bit (okay maybe not so little) of flash, we recommend you hit up your nearest Rolex boutiques for one of these beauties.
