Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Ref 5968A: Malaysia Price and Review

Patek Philippe makes every second count with their latest Aquanaut.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Ref. 5968A

When Patek Philippe introduced the Aquanaut collection as a part of their illustrious family, it sent a signal to the world that the company had not overlooked a segment of its clientele desiring something sportier but less rugged or hefty like the bigger Nautilus.

Devoid of an elongated protrusion (or ‘ears’) running along the side like the Nautilus, the Aquanaut has smoother design aesthetics. This gives the watch a softer and friendlier look, but it’s no less sporty than the Nautilus. Plus, those with smaller wrists might find it a more comfortable wear.

When this collection was first introduced, it was only available in stainless steel, which made sense as it was positioned as the gateway collection into the Patek Philippe world.

While steel might be seen as a much cheaper material compared to precious metals, this is Patek Philippe after all. The Aquanaut is still made and finished by hand like its other more established family members. Today, however, the Aquanaut comes in a variety of materials.

Now for the first time ever, the Aquanaut features a chronograph function. The Aquanaut Chronograph Ref: 5968A retains the same allure—chic and sophisticated with an understated charm, despite pushers on the side.

Nothing is compromised when fitting the Calibre CH 28-520 chronograph movement into the watch. Sporting a Patek Philippe seal on the rotor (above), this automatic engine bears all the hallmarks of a sports luxury masterpiece via the self-winding flyback movement with column-wheel control and the use of the complicated vertical disc clutch to enable smooth sweeps on the chronograph hands and reduces friction to virtually zero.

With the smaller case size and understated look, there is simply no excuse why the Aquanaut Chronograph shouldn’t be on your radar if you’re seeking a quality chronograph watch. Besides the famous name, supreme craftsmanship and masterful engineering, the surprising pairing of an orange composite material strap makes it just as casual as it is luxurious.
