Watch Of The Day: Longines Master Men’s AutomaticWritten by Joshua Yap
Your one-minute primer to the Longines Master Men’s Automatic.
Here’s a great way to stand out in a sea of staid dress watches without looking too much like an outlier. A best-seller for Longines since its debut 12 years ago, the Master collection now comes in two striking dial colours – blue or grey – complete with matching alligator leather straps. The blue version is brilliantly minimalist with appliquéd hour markers, while the grey variant exudes refined classicism with Roman numerals. The rest of the watch is tastefully subdued with a 40mm stainless steel case polished to gleaming perfection, housing a self-winding movement with 64-hour power reserve.
Though he wasn’t inducted into the world of watch journalism by choice, Joshua was hooked by mechanical horological wonders in no time. Although he personally favours modestly sized, no-nonsense timepieces, he sometimes misses the outrageous mind-bogglers of the pre-Credit Crunch years. As he dreams of owning a modern haute horlogerie watch one day, he’s currently content scouring the Internet for vintage value buys.
