Longines Legend Diver: Malaysia Price and Review

Longines goes back to black.

Longines Legend Diver

Since the reissue of the 1960s Longines Legend Diver watch in 2007, the model has stood as the brand’s frontrunner for a modern take on a vintage timepiece in the last decade. While it has received multiple tweaks and additions, this year sees it’s most significant upgrade ever with a blacked out treatment and new movement.

The current iteration sees the watch sporting a 42mm stainless steel case with black PVD coating, making it super sleek and elegant. The full black treatment is further accentuated with a black lacquered dial featuring Super-LumiNova indexes, numerals, and hands.

It also features a sapphire domed crystal with two crowns—one for winding the watch and the other for operating the internal rotating diver’s bezel. The bezel serves as the flange of the watch allowing the user to lock it in place, thus letting him know exactly how long he has been underwater. Both the crowns and the caseback are screwed, helping to ensure a professional-grade water resistance level of 300m.

Internally there is a new engine driving it, as the new Longines Legend Diver will see the old ETA 2824-2 replaced with the calibre L888.2 movement based on the ETA A31.L01. This movement, which features 21 jewels and a balance frequency of 25,200vph, is exclusive to Longines and provides increased precision with a much longer power reserve of 64 hours compared to 38 hours previously.

Another feature, which we love, is the black rubber strap that replicates the look and texture of the steel Milanese mesh bracelet introduced in previous models. It features a double security-folding clasp made of titanium with an integrated divers’ extension.

Longines’ effort to update their popular heritage piece with a blacked-out version makes this piece a winner. Solid functions with solid style points, we’ll definitely be seeing this fly off the shelf as soon as it hits.
