Casa Fagliano artisan
A craftsman at Casa Fagliano, the Argentinean bootmaker partnering Jaeger-LeCoultre for this special edition Reverso

You could say that the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso was one of the first ever sports watches introduced to the world. Unveiled in 1931, the watch was designed for polo riders who discovered that polo mallets and glass watch crystals then weren’t exactly a good pairing.

Created with the help of technician Henri Rodanet, the Reverso has an ingenious patented swivel mechanism that allows the case to be flipped around to hide the dial and reveal its steel caseback instead. This move protected the dial and mechanism from being hit by a polo mallet in full swing. Since then it has won over not only polo players but also watch enthusiasts for its unique shape and classy appeal.

The latest addition to the Reverso family sees the continuation of the Swiss manufacture’s partnership with Casa Fagliano, the celebrated Argentinean boot maker. Featuring a Casa Fagliano cordovan leather strap, the new Reverso Tribute Duoface Large’s classical aesthetics and second time zone plus 24-hour indicator make it a perfect tool for those who zigzag around the world across different time zones on a regular basis.

Zeroing on the dial, the main side features the time only dial with Dauphine hands for the hours and minutes, with a small seconds counter at six o’clock. The elegant nature of the dial is reflected through its Art Deco-inspired indexes and tracks as well as the dial’s slate grey sunray plate finishing. On the flipside, the second face features a second-time zone and 24-hour day/night indicator, both of which are displayed on a silvered dial with dual finishing - a Clous de Paris guilloché background and an opaline finish at the centre.

Powering the watch is the 167-part hand-wound mechanical movement Calibre 854C/2 that provides up to 42 hours of power reserve. This sophisticated engine comes in a rather large 49.4mm x 29.9mm pink gold case. But despite the size, the pink gold’s warm tone matches nicely with the duo of slate grey and silver on the dial, exuding a clean and sleek look on the wrist.

Casa Fagliano straps

Of course the special Casa Fagliano leather strap made from cordovan leather adds a certain je ne sais quoi that elevates this Reverso’s appeal. The leather is extremely supple yet amazingly strong, making the watch extra comfy to rock without the need for breaking it in. Each strap is handcrafted, with its own unique patina and finishing, making every piece a one-off treasure.

Limited to 100 pieces worldwide, the Reverso Tribute Duoface Large with Casa Fagliano strap is a rectangular marvel that may not be for everyone due to its unique shape but is still an art piece that’s worth every penny and more.
