Sharp, muscular design at its best.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograp

Looking at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control collection, one is hard-pressed to guess the year it was born. 1940? 1950? Despite the watches’ sober, Mad Men-esque aesthetic, all clean lines with nary a superfluous touch, they are actually a contemporary creation.

Introduced in 1992 as a symbol of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s performance-driven spirit. All watches that bear the ‘Master Control’ tag are hardy, robust survivors, having been subject to the brand’s rigorous in-house, ‘1,000-hour’ test of the same name. While the new Master Control Chronograph is cut from the same cloth as its predecessors (including models that hail from the wider ‘Master’ line) – meaning round-cased creations that exude a classic, dressy vibe – the watch is injected with an extra dose of nostalgia, giving it a vintage watch-inspired look.

The Master Control Chronograph is part of a 25th anniversary tribute trio, which includes a time and date, and world-timer. The chronograph version scores points for its effortless versality – it is a watch that pairs easily with formal or casualwear, with a touch of retro-chic to go.

The chronograph interface is slightly different here, compare to previous Master chronographs. It now features a bi-compax display instead of three chronograph counters, which ‘opens’ the dial and adds to its vintage allure. The dial’s opaline hue with bold black markers for time, and light blue accents for the chronograph markers is a winsome combination; the light shades of blue working extremely well with the silver and white sector dials giving just the right pop of colour.

Beating underneath the round shaped 40mm stainless steel case with ‘lozenge’ pushers is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Calibre 751G. A twin-barrel automatic movement offering 65 hours of power reserve, it features a column wheel and vertical coupling system for smooth and precise actuation of the chronograph function.

All in all, the Master Control Chronograph is a powerful and modern watch that acts like a classic dress watch. Infused with a vintage spirit, it is perfect for those who desire simplicity and functionality with just the slightest hint of caprice.
