The Big Bang slims down.

Hublot Big Bang Unico 42mm

Known for its outsized timepieces that are usually 45mm and up, Hublot has carved itself a nice piece of the luxury watch market pie. Despite being a relatively new player in the game, the launch of its iconic Big Bang collection in 2005 right after Jean-Claude Biver took over as CEO from founder Carlo Crocco, earned the Swiss watchmaker a reputation as a brand that continues to push boundaries with rare materials and unique creations.

Hublot then took a big step in 2010 with the unveiling of its very own in-house movement, a chronograph engine named the Unico HUB 1242. Three years later, the movement found its perfect home in the Big Bang collection. Built with no less than 330 individually assembled components and featuring an integrated flyback chronograph that can be reset at any time, it truly is one of a kind.

The undeniable success of the Unico and the Big Bang has led Hublot to present a redesigned version that is sleeker and smaller in build with a diameter measuring up to 42mm, making the Big Bang Unico 42mm an ideal choice for those with smaller wrists but who still want to wear a bigger watch without having it overpower the wrist.

The watch retains the same spirit and aesthetics as its larger counterpart, featuring the same open dial design with lume-filled hour indexes, Arabic numerals and cut-out hands. With the smaller case, Hublot has brilliantly crafted the more compact HUB 1280 that retains key characteristics of the HUB 1242 like the double clutch mechanism and the column wheel that’s visible from the dial. A flatter self-winding system also shaved 1.3mm off the movement’s height.

With the new size, the Big Bang Unico now looks leaner and, dare we say, more elegant. It comes in four variations: a satin-finished titanium case with black ceramic bezel or titanium case with titanium bezel as well as a King Gold case with ceramic bezel or King Gold case with King Gold bezel.
