Breitling Superocean Heritage II: Malaysia Price And Review

Breitling dives into its past.

Breitling Superocean, and Superocean Heritage II

Although better known for its aviation-inspired tool watches, Breitling hasn’t shied away from exploring the opposite end of the spectrum. In fact, the Swiss watchmaker released its first dive watch collection, the Superocean, back in 1957 (above, left), during an era where the category of watches made its biggest splash (excuse the pun) with the debut of the likes of the Omega Seamaster, Rolex Submariner, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, and IWC Aquatimer.

A little over six decades on, Breitling revisits the epochal collection with the Superocean Heritage II, drawing on the original’s design, while imbuing the new version with a touch of modernity.

The fluted unidirectional bezel topped with a resilient ceramic ring and marked with a luminescent marker at 12 o’clock seems like a minor upgrade but a practical improvement, as it adds durability to the dive feature.

Elsewhere, the flat anti-glare sapphire crystal, as well as large sword-shaped hands and prominent, facetted hour markers coated with lume enhance legibility to add to its tool-watch cachet.

Underneath the hood is the automatic Calibre B20, which is COSC-certified and offers 70 hours of power reserve. For the record, the movement is based on Tudor’s Calibre MT5612 – the result of an unprecedented collaboration between both brands.

Enhanced from the inside-out, with two dial colours and case sizes to choose from (42mm and 46mm), the Superocean Heritage II is an attractive sports watch that has aged remarkably well, and makes a great alternative for watch lovers who desire a little something different from Breitling.
