Vacheron Constantin Introduces Chinese New Year Special EditionsWritten by Alvin Wong
The subject matter may be perceived as mischevious, but Vacheron Constantin is dead serious about demonstrating its artistic capabilities with the Métiers d’Art ‘La Légende du Zodiaque Chinois’, created to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Monkey.
Inspired by the ancient Chinese art of paper-cutting, Vacheron Constantin’s artisans recreated the look of the patterned paper cuts by depicting foliage in precious metal against a mother-of-pearl dial. Meantime, the said primate occupies centre stage as a miniaturised gold sculpture, framed by four windows that display the hour, minutes, day and date. Limited to 12 pieces each in pink gold or platinum case.
Alvin promises not to be a douche when talking about watches. He may have scoured the Basel and Geneva watch fairs for the past 15 years, and played an instrumental role to the growth of Singapore's pioneering horological and men's lifestyle publications, but the intrepid scribe seeks to learn something new with each story he writes.
