Off To The Races: Longines Singapore Gold Cup 2015Written by Alvin Wong
A staunch supporter of equestrian sport since the late 19th century, Longines has partnered the world’s most prestigious horseracing events.
Little wonder then, that the most prestigious date on Singapore’s horseracing calendar bore the Swiss watch company’s imprint as official sponsor and timekeeper.
True to form, the afternoon race was distinguished by high-octane glamour on the stands and pulsating excitement on the tracks. For the record, jockey R. Shafiq and his thoroughbred, Cooptado, emerged victorious to walk home with a prize kitty of S$1.35 million. Longines also took the opportunity to showcase its latest DolceVita collection for ladies at the VIP box, a fittingly elegant and refined range that was more than at home amid the fancy frocks donned by guests of the Singapore Gold Cup.
Alvin promises not to be a douche when talking about watches. He may have scoured the Basel and Geneva watch fairs for the past 15 years, and played an instrumental role to the growth of Singapore's pioneering horological and men's lifestyle publications, but the intrepid scribe seeks to learn something new with each story he writes.
