Harry Winston Commemorates The Year Of The MonkeyWritten by Alvin Wong
You can expect more monkey-themed timepieces to swing your way in 2016.
The monkey is the ninth of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, and it has become customary for some brands, such as Harry Winston, to roll out special edition timepieces to commemorate the Chinese Lunar New Year.
The Premier Monkey Automatic 36mm is capricious creation, depicting the primate in yellow gold; the sculpted execution here recalling decorative Chinese paper cuts. Set against a pink mother-of-pearl dial with inlaid gold specks, this auspicious looking combination of precious metal and stone is rendered even more regal with brilliant and emerald-cut diamonds totalling 2.56 carats on the case and dial.
Alvin promises not to be a douche when talking about watches. He may have scoured the Basel and Geneva watch fairs for the past 15 years, and played an instrumental role to the growth of Singapore's pioneering horological and men's lifestyle publications, but the intrepid scribe seeks to learn something new with each story he writes.
