Watch Of The Day: Breitling Bentley GMT B04 S Carbon BodyWritten by Joshua Yap
Your one-minute primer to the Breitling Bentley GMT B04 S Carbon Body.
As much as we love the original B04, its hefty 45mm dimension makes it somewhat unwieldy, at least for some of us. Fortunately, Breitling has ameliorated that problem with a remarkably light case for the new version. Adopting innovative technology from the worlds of F1 race cars and aviation, its case composed of 30-micron thin carbon fibres woven into several hundreds of layers, and then bonded by heat-set resin to yield extreme lightness, rigidity, and shock resistance. Limited to 250 pieces, it is chronometer-certified by COSC and driven by an in-house automatic movement with chronograph and GMT functions.
Though he wasn’t inducted into the world of watch journalism by choice, Joshua was hooked by mechanical horological wonders in no time. Although he personally favours modestly sized, no-nonsense timepieces, he sometimes misses the outrageous mind-bogglers of the pre-Credit Crunch years. As he dreams of owning a modern haute horlogerie watch one day, he’s currently content scouring the Internet for vintage value buys.
