Blancpain’s BaselWorld 2015 ShowcaseWritten by Alvin Wong
Blancpain hosted a showcase of its latest creations, themed rather grandly, ‘Art de Vivre’ (Art of Living) at a stately black-and-white colonial bungalow.
Although the brand’s new mechanical marvels were the center of attention – amongst which included the spectacular Villeret Shakudo, featuring an ancient Japanese decoration technique on the made, made by manipulating and ageing copper alloy – guests were equally piqued their immersive surroundings.
A master engraver was on hand to demonstrate the intricacies of her craft, while a pair of Swiss-based master chefs known as The Creative Duo, who cut their teeth with Michelin-starred establishments, provided a grand flourish with a wildly inventive dining experience.
Alvin promises not to be a douche when talking about watches. He may have scoured the Basel and Geneva watch fairs for the past 15 years, and played an instrumental role to the growth of Singapore's pioneering horological and men's lifestyle publications, but the intrepid scribe seeks to learn something new with each story he writes.
