For when you're not feeling square.

Bell & Ross Vintage BR VR-94 Black Steel Automatic
What comes to mind when you think of a Bell & Ross watch? We bet it’s the large square case of BR01 models inspired by flight instruments. These are, of course, the iconic models that have elevated the French brand’s name within the aviation horology community. But look a little bit further and you’ll find a whole other side of Bell & Ross that you might not expect to see.

Unlike their squarish brethren, the Bell & Ross Vintage collection timepieces are designed with classic looks and traditional round cases that reference the history of aviation itself. Cautiously designed to meet various military specifications set by the armed forces, the watches of this collection are armed with legibility, functionality and unparalleled precision.

In its third iteration, the latest Vintage collection features two three-hand models, one much sportier than the other, as well as a twin-register chronograph model (above, with calfskin strap), which is our favourite one out of the trio. Known as the BR V2-94 Black Steel Automatic, this beautifully made chronograph gives the vintage-inspired collection a simple and modern touch. With its curved lugs, crown guards and black tachymeter bezel made of anodised aluminium, the watch looks crisp and clean.

The large white numerals on the black background give it a classy appeal and the slightly slimmer sword hands make for an overall technical and delicate feel. The design of the hands is a small but nonetheless enjoyable detail by Bell & Ross. The second hand counterweight is designed to look like a stylised plane profile (above), which is an ingenious example of incorporating aviation-inspired trimmings into the watch without trying too hard. According to them, this detail will be found in many more future releases.

Powering the watch is the BR-Cal.01 automatic chronograph movement. The watch also features a dual register layout displaying a 30-minute timer at nine o’clock and running seconds at three o’clock with the date nicely tucked in between four and five o’clock.
We think this third iteration of the Vintage collection is both sophisticated and cool. The entire collection perfectly captures that old school feeling most pilot watch enthusiasts love. Commanding a sense of pride, history and function, the BR V2-94 Black Steel Automatic is the star of the show in this collection and the design and aesthetics of the watch make it an enduring timepiece to have on your wrist.
