Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military: Malaysia Price & Review

Bell & Ross flexes some military muscle.

Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military

Over a decade ago, 38mm watches were considered a pretty normal size for men. Then came along the radical and rejuvenated l’enfant terrible Bell & Ross that introduced a huge square watch in 2005.

Christened the BR-01, it looked more like a gauge right out of a fighter plane console with a ginormous 45mm case. Little did they know oversized watches would eventually become a trend, putting Bell & Ross in the forefront of the wave.

In 2014 Bell & Ross unveiled its second generation of the BR-01 with the BR-X1, a more complex and sophisticated range of timepieces with more complicated movements than before. The result? Roaring success, especially amongst the younger crowd, thanks to the timepieces’ trendy new look paired with very respectable movements.

This year Bell & Ross deviated from its usual ceramic case and opted for a super high-tech material, the khaki grey high resistance titanium (HRT), with the ceramic sandwiched in-between, perfect for its military-themed watch. The timepiece is super lightweight, resilient and durable. Combined with the multi-complex construction of the watch case, the BR-X1 is one of the most robust watches out there. But you wouldn’t be able to tell from wearing it because it weighs next to nothing.

Like all the watches in the BR-X1 collection, this version has a skeletonised ‘X’ bridge. In addition, it has been given a black DLC treatment for contrast against the khaki grey tone of the chapter rings. The applique indexes and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova C3 (the brightest of all the Super-LumiNova hues), which glows like a torch in the dark, awesome for those military night manoeuvres, or maybe just helping you find your seat in the pitch-dark cinema.

In the belly of the beast is a skeletonised automatic Calibre BR-CAL.313, based on the ETA2892 movement with added chronograph functions. If you are a big fan of military-themed gadgets, you will love this BR-X1 Military, as it represents everything a frontline trooper would ever want.

Surprisingly, the 45mm case doesn’t come across too big at all. It’s actually rather perfect for sporty weekends or just as a casual watch you can take with you anywhere. The rubber strap also means you don’t have to worry about perspiring or roughing it out with the watch. But don’t wait too long if you want one; it’s limited to just 250 pieces.
